Who we are
The Brazilian Institute of Biodiversity Genomics (INCT-GB) is one of the largest biodiversity genomics initiatives currently underway, bringing together a multidisciplinary team of researchers and specialists dedicated to exploring and understanding the planet's biological diversity. We address fundamental questions about the origin, diversification, resilience, and conservation of biodiversity, with a particular focus on the Neotropical region, where species diversity is extraordinary and ecosystems display unique levels of complexity. Our research aims not only to document biodiversity but also to understand ecological interactions and the impacts of climate change, while informing conservation policies and sustainable practices that can help safeguard this natural heritage for future generations. In addition, we promote science communication and education, engaging society in understanding the importance of biodiversity and the urgent need for its conservation.
Goals
We aim to raise awareness of the high level panel on the genomes of organisms are eukaryotic, native to Brazil, and will enable applications in areas as diverse as the characterization of ecological, evolutionary, and taxonomic biodiversity, the conservation of the environment, the bio-based economy, and in the monitoring of the effects of climate change.
To do this, we strive to implement the techniques of cutting-edge research, capacity building in a large-scale transfer of a continuously knowledge on the subject to government agencies, corporations, non-governmental organizations, and society as a whole.
